Originally released in nineteen eighty-two, Sonic Youth's self-titled debut captures the earliest recorded vision of one of the most influential bands in alternative and experimental rock. Emerging from New York City's no-wave and avant-garde scene, the album blends abrasive guitar textures, minimalism, and art-punk attitude that would later shape the band’s legendary career.

This expanded edition includes the original EP along with rare early live recordings from nineteen eighty-one and a studio outtake from the band's formative sessions. Featuring the early lineup with Richard Edson on drums, the release documents Sonic Youth in their rawest stage, experimenting with dissonant tunings, hypnotic repetition, and the noisy aesthetic that would soon redefine underground rock.
