Wormrot released Voices in 2016 on Earache Records, their third full-length and a defining statement from Singapore's grindcore vanguard. The band had already established themselves as uncompromising architects of suffocating, precision-engineered noise, but Voices marks their most focused exploration of controlled chaos—a record that balances raw aggression with compositional clarity without sacrificing an ounce of heaviness.

The album opens with "Blockhead Fuck Off," a four-minute demolition that sets the template: Arif Sandrian's vocals crack and distort across Rasyid Jalal's guitar work, which alternates between grinding riffs and sudden melodic interventions that prevent the barrage from becoming monotonous. Tracks like "Hollow Roots" and "Exit Fear" lock into hypnotic grooves before detonating, while "God's In His Heaven" deploys tonal variation to genuinely unsettling effect. The record's second half—including "Oblivious Mess" and the descending nightmare of "Descending Into The Unknown"—sustains pressure through dynamic restraint, letting silence and space become weapons. Voices is grindcore that trusts the listener's endurance rather than relying solely on volume.
