The Desert Sessions returned in 2019 with Desert Sessions Vol. 11 & 12, continuing the prolific collaborative project initiated by Josh Homme. Operating as an ever-rotating ensemble rather than a fixed band, the Desert Sessions have long functioned as a creative laboratory where Homme assembles musicians across genres for focused recording sessions in the Mojave Desert. This double volume entry maintains that tradition while expanding the project's sonic palette, drawing from a wider pool of contributors and reflecting the accumulated momentum of the series' near two-decade run.

The record balances muscular rock frameworks with exploratory arrangements across its tracklist. "Move Together" and "Noses In Roses Forever" anchor the set with propulsive grooves, while "Far East For The Trees" showcases the sessions' capacity for atmospheric dynamics and instrumental interplay. "If You Run" and "Crucifire" demonstrate the project's willingness to pursue heavier textures, and "Chic Tweetz" adds rhythmic sophistication and melodic invention. This limited edition vinyl pressing features custom mix-and-match, body-swap booklet design from Matador, making the packaging itself a collectible element. Early orders from the Matador store included a limited sticker sheet. The pressing preserves the original master while presenting it in a format designed specifically for tactile engagement—appropriate for a project that has always prioritized the physical act of making music together.
